GCSE and GCE Course Description in Brief
GCSE, and A level courses are available to people wanting to learn Academic Chinese. These basic academic Chinese language courses are for students who have good base foundation of Chinese language skill. Students need to know at lease 600-1200 Chinese characters before enter for this National Examination; also students able to translation both English and Chinese and write a letter or article.

Manchester Chinese Centre is a registered National EDEXCEL Examination Centre and City Council Education’s Supplementary Dept. It co-operates with local organizations and mainstream school to provide a full range of Chinese courses for Children. We are committed to excellence in learning and teaching Chinese languages, especially in academic Chinese.

GCSE: Our GCSE courses cover a full range of listening, speaking, reading and writing. We use new teaching methods of excise book, Topics 1 -11, new textbooks and supported by modern ICT.

GCE- Advanced Subsidiary unit 1:
Course Topics will cover are:

• Celebrations and Chinese Festivals
• Transport, travel and Tourism
• Education and Employment
• Culture customs - entertainment, leisure, foods, diet and health
• China’s well known cities

Exam paper:

• Reading & Responding
• Writing
• Translation (English translate to Chinese)

GCE- A Level unit 2:
It requires high standard writing skill and good knowledge of the Chinese language, history and culture. The courses topics will cover are:

• Culture
• Environment
• Geography- cities and rivers
• History- Chinese modern history 100 years
• Literature- 4 authors
• Films
• Religion- Taoist, Buddhism and Confucius

Exam paper:
Choose one of above main subject and 100 character plan permitted

• Article 500-1000 words
• Reading and Responding
• Writing and Translation (Chinese translate to English)
