《东游记 》曼城 华人之家- 青少年文化大使东游行记 出版
2008年7月13日， 一本名为《东游记》的新书发行典礼在曼彻斯特华人之家举行。 中华人民共和国驻曼彻斯特总领事龚建忠先生，英国著名政治家，文学家杰拉夫 •考夫曼爵士， 曼城议员托尼 •伯恩斯 以及孟加拉驻曼城高级官员阿萨德•阿拉姆•锡亚姆等出席了这次典礼，并致了词。这些贵宾的出席和祝福，使这次颁行典礼成为“宣扬中国文化、庆祝世界多民族，多文化相和谐的一次盛典”，也使这本新书的出版成为英国社会文化届的一件大事。
为此，《东游记 》一书的策划编制人黄叶莉薇女士激动不已。 她说：“这本书是在功总领事的关怀和帮助下，英国社会各界，包括来自不同种族、文化背景的朋友、当然还有 在英华人各界人士的大力支持下完成、出版的。没有他们的支持和帮助，就没有这本书，也没有今天这样盛大而隆重的文化庆典。”
这本书的作者是一群14-17岁的孩子。他们对中国博大精深的历史文化充满好奇和热爱，对建立英中之间友好文化交流充满热忱。 他们，就是于2007年访华的曼彻斯特青少年文化大使团。
2007年7月，在黄叶莉薇女士领导的曼城 华人之家中心的精心策划下，在中国驻曼彻斯特领事馆、曼城市长、市政府、和中国武汉市政府的大力支持下，20名来自达曼彻斯郡 43所不同学校的学生完成了对首都北京、和曼彻斯特的姐妹城市武汉，为期近30天的友好访问。 在访问期间，他们参观游览了众多历史文化古迹，到当地的学校参观访问、到同龄人家里居住、还和来自日本、韩国和中国的同龄人一起参加了武汉国际青少年日的庆祝活动。 整个访问活动充实而美好，给这些青少年大使们留下了深刻的回忆。
于是，他们返回曼城以后，将自己在中国的经历、对中国和中国文化的感受，用最纯真、质朴的语言记录了下来。
2008年3月，在曼城华人之家的支持下，这些真诚、直率的文字被印刷成册。 日前，曼彻斯特中心图书馆刚刚结束了这本《东游记》和此次曼城青少年大使活动的资料图片的展览。 在曼城中心图书馆馆长的推荐下，这本书很有可能在全英国的主要图书馆、主流学校进行巡回展出。
青年人是我们的希望，也是未来的主人。 这本由英国未来的接班人们撰写的书，在英中文化交流的前进道路上树立了一面旗帜。随着中国的发展，世界各国不同民族、不同文化之间交流、融合的深入，一定会有更多这样的旗帜被一面一面的树立起来。
“JOURNEY TO THE EAST” BOOK LAUNCH

The launch of our book “Journey to the East” was the culmination of months of dedicated hard work by young people in the Northwest of England.
Stories and articles written by the children bring alive China’s history, culture, daily life, education system, infrastructure and traditional and modern medical services. Some contributors had direct experience of China, having benefited from a Youth Ambassador visit sponsored by Youth Opportunity Fund last year.
The youngsters shine a bright unbiased light on this extraordinary country illuminating previously hidden mysteries.
The launch was attended by The Consul General of China Mr Gong, The Rt Hon Sir Gerald Kauffman MP, The Bangladeshi Assistant High Commissioner Mr Asad Alam Siam, Councillor Afzal Khan, Councillor Tony Burns, Mr Barrie Thompson, and Mr Robert Lee.
The book has work to do: Anyone who would like a copy is asked for a donation, and with this money Manchester Chinese Centre is setting up a Trust to enable children from all backgrounds to visit China. The purpose of these visits is to teach English to young Chinese people, experience another culture, and make friends for life. Education is the only way to achieve a better life. The Youth Ambassadors brought back amazing stories of the warm welcome given by the young Chinese, and the deluge of questions about life in the West that they had to answer!
